Our incredible team of volunteers are essential to helping deliver Shoresh’s award-winning, hands-on, Jewish environmental programs.
WHY VOLUNTEER WITH SHORESH?
By volunteering with us you can:
- Explore your passion for Jewish nature-based learning;
- Learn and gain hands-on experience and new skills;
- Support food justice in your community by growing food for those in need;
- Be outside, active, and in community with like-minded people;

We provide volunteers with hands-on training and learning opportunities, space to provide input and feedback, leadership opportunities, and our deep appreciation in many delicious forms (honey, herbs, and veggies to name a few)!!!!

Community volunteers support Shoresh by volunteering at one or more Shoresh programs or community events throughout the season. Help weed, water, and harvest the Kavanah Garden at our weekly Kavanah Open Hours; assist with our honey extraction and sales; write content for the Shoresh blog, or lend support at one of our community festivals. Tools and training are provided on-site. All are welcome!

JEWISH ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM ASSISTANTS:
Jewish Environmental Program Assistants are core members of the Shoresh Educational Team. They support our educational programs and curriculum-based activities, weaving together Jewish teachings and nature-based learning.
What you bring: Jewish Environmental Program Assistants bring to our programs a strong love of teaching and an enthusiasm for Jewish garden and nature-based education. We are looking for committed, dependable, and flexible individuals who are open to and inspired by working with diverse community members.
What you receive: Jewish Environmental Program Assistants will be invited to participate in our Jewish Environmental Educator Training where they will receive knowledge, skills, and curriculum resources. As well, as core members of the Shoresh Education Team, they will be invited to participate in semi-monthly learning and skills share workshops, free of charge. All volunteers will enjoy Shoresh expressions of gratitude in the form of honey, vegetables, and such!
Expectations: For Jewish Environmental Program Assistants, we are seeking a minimum 6 week commitment (between 4-12 hours/week). Volunteer hours are flexible.

ORGANIC GARDEN ASSISTANTS:
Organic Garden Assistants are core members of the Shoresh Team. They support our educational programs and tzedakah objectives by helping ensure our garden spaces are loved and thriving!
What you bring: Organic Garden Assistants bring a love of all things garden-related, including plants, people, and garden critters and creatures! No prior gardening experience necessary…just an enthusiasm for hands-on learning!
What you receive: Organic Garden Assistants will receive on-site training in organic garden practices. As well, as core members of the Shoresh Team, they will be invited to participate in semi-monthly learning and skills share workshops, free of charge. All volunteers will enjoy Shoresh expressions of gratitude in the form of honey, vegetables, and such!
Expectations: Organic Garden Assistants will be expected to commit to weekly gardening sessions, for a three-month period or longer. Organic Garden Assistants can sign up for: Kavanah Garden (in Vaughan) – Wednesdays from 3:30-6:00pm
